DSL software installation problems on XP Pross, SP2

M

MATT MATHIESON

I tried to install a Bell South DSL system and had problems. Called Bell
South Tech support. After 2 hours on the phone, Bell South said that the
problem was with the SP2 and I should talk to MS support.

My question is there a work around patch for the SP2/DSL software?

Thank You

Matt

There is NO software needed for DSL -- NONE !

If you use PPPoE for DSL, WinXP has a PPPoE client. Even better, get a Cable/DSL Router
such as the Linksys BEFSR41 and it, not the PC, will make the PPPoE connection PLUS it will
act as a simplistic FireWall or , based upon the model, a full FireWall. There are many
more benefits to using the Router as well.

specifically, what problems did you have ?
did the BellSouth-provided software crash ?
did the BellSouth-provided software finished without error ?
did you get no icons ? did you get an icon to make a connection,
launched it, and failed to get a connection ? what do you see in
Network Connections ? anything setup in Broadband ?

some specifics would help regarding what steps you took, what steps
finished without error, what steps failed, what error messages did you
get, what did you inspect for causes (troubleshooting steps) etc.

What software is BellSouth insisting you install? There is normally no
added software required to connect to an ISP via a DSL Modem.

As has happened before, the BellSouth Tech lied to you.

Id there were, the only possible source would be BellSouth, as it's
they're software that's incompatible with a properly patched operating
system.
