Dropdown of URL history bar behaves sluggishly

I've noticed that when viewing the history in the URL bar at the top
of IE, - i.e. clicking the dropdown arrow at the far right, sometimes
there's a long pause before the history is displayed. Seems to have
started with the last couple of weeks.

Any ideas as to what would cause this?
