IE 6 problem

About two weeks ago I noticed that IE 6 quit going to whatever I selected
from history, I had to hit "go".

Shortly thereafter, I noted that it was losing items from the history
dropdown prematurely.

Went through the various settings to make sure something hadn't gotten
inadvertantly changed...all good..history supposed to be there 20
days..but..nada, it goes away.

Went to "add-remove" to do a repair, and IE is no longer in add-remove.

Went to the inf folder, right clicked on "install" for IE, it went through
some motions, and asked for a couple of files, which I fed it, finished, I
rebooted, checked add-remove and it's still not there.

Then I ran the sfc /scannow from command prompt, let it run through the XP
cd, rebooted, checked add-remove, and it's still not there.

The windows component box shows it checked, and weighing in at 0.00 bytes.

IE *works*, as such, but still dropping the danged history, not showing up
in add-remove, and still has to be manually sent to an item from drop down
history.

I wring my hands.

Any suggestions?

IE6 does not show up in Add or Remove Programs in WinXP. Try this:
Delete the damaged History folder- a new one will be created on restart.

OK, did that, and I still don't see IE on my start menu anymore. Only on my
desktop.

Man, you sure IE wasn't in add/remove? I've been running XP Pro since SP2
relaease, and I could have sworn I did an IE repair from add/remove last
winter.
