Drives Dissapeared

I recently Installed Norton Systemworks (2005). I noticed a couple of days
ago that both of my DVD burners have dissapeared under "My Computer" as well
as in any programs. i checked the device manager and it says: "Windows
successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the
hardware device. (Code 41)"
I have tried removing the burners, and the IDE drivers and reinstalling them
and it didnt help. Both drives work great, and worked fine till recently. I
JUST did a new Windows Install (XP Pro) on a new Segate 120GB HD.
When I installed Norton Systemworks, it had norton ghost and go back. I
removed those individual programs cause they were bogging down my system (and
was useless to me). Then a day later I tried to burn a DVD and it told me it
couldnt find the drive. So I checked "My Computer" and they were both gone. I
then checked the cables and then removed and reinstalled all the drivers.
Didnt work... So I then removed ALL Norton programs and still nothing. I dont
know whats left...I'm on the verge of trying another wipe and reinstall of
windows.. but I would loose about 90GB of data (since I cant burn anything)/
HELP ME PLEASE! My email is (e-mail address removed) and I woudl appriciate
anyones help.

last resort if no one tells you a better one
try re-install with upgrade option, don't format. that should preserver
quite a bit of data. you want to play it safe, move data out of
c:\documents and settings first.

Upper and Lower filter problem. This article still applies even you did not
have Easy CD Creator installed.

CD-ROM access is missing and messages cite error Code 31, Code 32, Code 19,
Code 39, or Code 41 after you remove Easy CD Creator in Windows XP
