Hi everyone,

This is my first post and i would very much appreciate if someone can help
me.I have two questions.

1) When i want to update a driver should i have to update it from device
manager update driver option or from the manufacture website.

2) Recently my screen freeze when i get disconnected from the internet or
when i want to make a dial up connection.Computer reboot by itself and it
gave me this error which i would like someone can tell me what drive or
software is causing this problem.

In the event viewer / system i find this error
Source:system error Type:error
Category:102 Event ID:1003
User: N/A

Description: Error code 1000007e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 ec033234,
parameter3eda14c8c, parameter4 eda1498c

Error code 000000d1, parameter1 fbfdf3f1, parameter2 00000002, parameter3
00000001, parameter4 ebf632d5.

I want to know what driver or software is causing this error and if it's
the modem since this only happens when i get disconnected from the internet
or when i try to make a connection.Sometime when i click on the dial up
connection icon on the desktop it doesn't after the system hang.So i make
another dial up connection icon. Please i need someone to help me because i
don't want to reformat the drive and reinstall windows xp.

I can answer 1. for you - you may be asked for your OS/SP1/SP2 and other
hardware details - so be ready with them.
What did the MS link to the event code lead you to? assuming you made an
error report.
Also, whilst waiting for help, do a little Google on the 'event 1003' and
the error codes - you may find a solution.
Good luck

Never, never use the Windows update for anything in device manager.
Always go to the manufacturer's site. If not too sure which is the one you
want, get their help - register/sign-in and post your question.
Some sites are not easy to read etc.

Hi antioch

Thanks for your reply.I use windows xp professional edition version 2002,so
i don't know if it's SP1 or not.I'm a newbie.I use a pentium 4 3.0 GHZ, 80 GB
hard disk.I need to show if i should update the drivers from device manager
update drive option or go to the manufature website to download it from there.

When i click on the link in the event viewer it doesn't take me to any
website it only ask me if i want to send the information to microsoft.I
searched google and had no luck to find anything that could help me.I only
want to know what drive or application is causing this error so i would find
a way to solve it.Could it be the modem driver since the screen only freeze
right after i get disconnected from the internet or when i'm trying to
establish a dial up connection.Any ideas?.Thank you for your help.

Already answered - go to manufacturer -end of subject - the MS updates can
be five or six years old.
SP1 or not - can help here - Desktop/right click on My Comp/Properties - up
comes a window telling you all you need to know.
When i click on the link in the event viewer it doesn't take me to any
website it only ask me if i want to send the information to microsoft.I

From Event Viewer - System - double click on the entry in which you are
interested - up comes the event - click on the blue highlighted bit
to MS - up comes the report to MS window - click Yes and wait while you are
transferred to Help and Support. If this does not go through then you have
no IE connection. So what happened when you clicked Yes. From here I can
take you no further. I too am a learner. There are no 'newbies' in
newsgroups - they lurk in forums :)
From here I would contact my ISP - I do on the first instance when I cant
get connected. Are there any errors coming up in OE - forgot to ask that.
I too have great difficulty read error troubleshooting - including those in
MS - there are enough on event 1003 to keep you reading for weeks.

Sorry that there have not been any other offers of help. The preoccupation
is with Black Tuesday updates may account for that.
I was thinking that a post in either newusers or
microsoft.public.outlookexpress may be more productive. Please include the
fact that you have little comp tech knowledge.
You certainly have enough info to give them for a start.
I wish you progress.
