Driver for my cd and dvd rom

I re-installed my Windows XP after formatting my hard drive. Now my computer
is initializing my new Plextor DVDR PX-716A, but it will not find the proper
driver, this goes also for my Aopen CDRW. I can use both as cd-rom, but
cannot burn. It seems like the correct drivers are not installed. I've tried
everything, and need help for solving this.

Does "everything" include installing either Nero or Easy CD? XP can't burn
DVDs without such software.

CD-ROM Access Is Missing and Messages Cite Error Code 31, Code 32,
Code 19, or Code 39 After You Remove Easy CD Creator in Windows XP

To resolve this behavior, follow these steps:

1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
[Start > Run and type: REGEDIT , and hit enter]

2. Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

3. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.

4. Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

5. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.

6. Quit Registry Editor.NOTE: After you remove the Upperfilters value and the Lowerfilters value,
if you notice lost functionality in a particular program, such as CD recording software, you may need
to reinstall that software. If the problem recurs, consult with the software vendor for assistance.

7. Restart your computer.

Carey,

Thank you for taking the time to post this process!

I'm not sure of the "why"... but, both of my CD and DVD drives stopped
working one day. When I investigated the issue, I found that Device Manager
had them recognized but the drivers were "missing or corrupt". I hadn't made
any changed lately... so I have no idea what occured.

After a few days of trying different "troubleshooting" scenarios (and almost
gave up at one point)... I found this post, I simply followed your process...
restarted my PC... and both of them are up and running.

Once again... thank you very much.

It would be much simpler for you just to use this automated tool which does
the very same thing.
http://dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/xp_cd_dvd_fix.htm
I have use this in the past and it works as advertised, (no worrys).
Don't forget to reboot after useing this for the changes to take place.
Good Luck.
