driveclean.com pop ups. how do i get rid of them?

over the last few days i have been getting pop ups claiming that adult sites i view ( i don't view any) can be traced. it wants me to download some software to remove all trace. i also get pop ups asking me to download drivecleaner and one who's name i can't remember accurately, but was win something ( sorry, not very useful). i cannot close the pop ups, or do anything else on the page whilst they are there. i have run both spy bot and adware, we have avg free and i have run that too. one of the spy ware programmes did remove something to do with the problem, but it is back .
i have looked and seen that others have had similar problems, but i have not been able to follow your instructions as i dont' have the log info that others have shown you.
As you can probably tell i am not a computer whizz. if you think i would be better taking this to a shop, please say, though we only just got it back after having it cleaned up and memory increased.

Sorry to say, but yes, it does sound like you have a nastie or two on your system.


At your own admission ... "but i have not been able to follow your instructions as i don't' have the log info that others have shown you" ... I would suggest taking your PC to a 'good' trustworthy computer shop.

can you see anything in there that i can remove to get rid of the problem?
i have been reading the solutions given to other people and am able to follow the downloads needed and running them in safe mode. i am not certsin though, if i have exactly the same problem as others. the pop ups aren't there all the time. they happen when i try to access some sites. eg i just tried to view a birthday card sent by my mum for my 8 yr old and the pop ups appeared.
if you still think it best for me to take it to the shop i will, i guess i just wanted to see if there was anything i could do.

Remember that Hijackthis must be run in an own folder. Only if Hijackthis is run in its own folder will it create backups!

However, I cannot "see" any nasties on your system ... there are the odd program, realplayer/MSN/msmsgs.exe, that I would not personally use, but your Log is clean.

I suggest downloading, install, update and run SuperAntiSpyware and also pop along to both of these online scanners and run an online scan ...

A good program for clearing out rubbish is CCleaner ... it will not rid you of any nasties, but it will remove all rubbish that one finds hard to get to.

I also suggest you try out HauteSecure ... I do not normally recommend Beta security software, but this one has saved my Sister, who knows less than a pea about the Internet, on more than one occasion. She may stop phoning, one day.

i hadn't realised about running hjt in it's own folder, not even sure i know how to do it! sure i can find some instructions though.
i will follow your other suggestions. i was kind of hoping tha the nasties weren't actually on the system, just very annying that they try to get on, my son would love to see his birhtday card!
don't hold your breath about your sister, my poor brother is in a similar situation!
