Get rid of adware/spyware

Guest

Ok...at some point last week something was downloaded on my computer and now
we have pop-ups that I can't seem to get rid of. I use XP, I have the
Windows security running, Google pop-up blocker, Microsoft Anti-Spyware
running, McAfee Virus Scan, Lavasoft AdAware SE, and Spy-bot (latest
version). I've used all of these today, gotten rid of what they have found
and I still have this crap on my machine. So I ask, NOW WHAT?!?!?! Please
let me know. Thanks, Mike J.

I suggest downloading, installing and updating BHODemon for any Browser Helper Objects
that may be on the PC.

I'm having the same problem. No matter what I try to do I can't get rid of
this evil, obnocious, presence called "YourSiteBar". Windows XP is too weak
to remove it in add/remove.

Please start a new thread and not hijack another's thread.

When you create that new thread, please state what software (with versions) you have used
and what steps you have taken.

How unfriendly you are! I wasn't highjacking a thread. It was my very first
post in a Windows forum. I was only going on to give my experience with this
problem. I have just as much right as a Microsoft customer as you to post
here. Are you the chief of poice of posters?

Anyway, while you were figuring out a way to put me down, I solved the
problem on my own without any help here.

No -- But I am one guy who is willing and able to help you. Copping an attitude won't help.
You know the expression, "don't bite the hand that feeds you." Your experience is NOT the
same as Mike Jamison. You did not even reply to him but someone else trying to help Mike.

If this is your first time posting then take the advice, learn from it, follow it becuase
you did hijack someone else's thread, Mike Jamison. If YOU have a problem then create your
own post about YOUR problem and you will find I or someone will be willing to assist you.

Think of it this way, how friendly will your reception be if there are 10 peple already in
line and cut in front of them into second place ?

David is quite correct. Posting a different problem to another problem
thread is very confusing to say the least. David has been in these
newsgroups for years and has helped an untold number of people...just as he
was trying to help you get the best response to your problem. Since it is
your first time posting...be willing to learn.

The reply I wrote, had everything to do with what the OP started with. I only
stated that I was having the same problem with adware, spyware and pop-ups
that he is obviously going through. How does it differ? I started off with my
reply only to be informed of what I can do to solve this problem. I didn't
realize I would be attacked by such a touchy group of know-it-alls who
obviously have a self-rightous, snobby attitude. I have been a part of many
forums in the past and have never encountered such a hostile environment.
OUCH!!!

Anyway, Mike, I downloaded a free version of Ad-Ware SE, ran it, and it
solved my problem. Hope this helps.

When two people are trying to solve the same problem in the same thread it
can become very confusing when both are replying and making comments but I
don't see where anyone "attacked" you. Each person with a problem will
undoubtedly have tried different solutions to solve it. David just
suggested you start another thread. No one here claims to know it all and
have never implied that. That said, there are some posters here that know a
great deal about the topic matter and are a great help to others.

It helps YOU, not Mike.

When he started this thread he wrote that he is using...

"...Google pop-up blocker, Microsoft Anti-Spyware, running, McAfee Virus Scan, Lavasoft
AdAware SE, and Spy-bot (latest
version)."

Notice that Mike is already using Ad-aware SE !

Let me reiterate...

Perform all malware scans in Safe Mode.

Also, it would be helpful to read the following information…

The following is a re-post of Nick Skrepetos (SuperAdBlocker.com) <[email protected]>
He allows the use of his software for a fully functional 15-day trial

"Hello,

You may also wish to try Super Ad Blocker with SUPERAntiSpyware,we use a
system level driver to delete the files, so they should not come back:
http://www.superadblocker.com

If that does not find and/or remove the spware/adware on your machine, you
can submit a
diagnositc and I will diagnose your machine for free and post the results
back to the group and update our rules with anything found:
