drive not visible

Running windows xp pro. Decided to install a new hard drive to become my
boot drive. Have installed windows successfully. Then attached my old drive
figuring I could pull device drivers and copy files over to new drive.
Problem is the drive does not show under My Computer. It shows in the bios
and if I go to adminstrative tools I can see it there as well but it has no
drive letter assigned. Any ideas as to why drive does not show in windows
and what I might do to make it show? Thanks.

Check the drive jumper, your old drive now needs
to be set as a "Slave" or "Cable Select" depending
on the drives you are using. If the two drives are
from different manufactures you may need to try
several jumper combinations.

Perhaps it was, but the question not confirm the new drive has
been partitioned and formatted.

Right click on my computer then select manage

a windows will appear in that window under storage select disk management

import the drive as foreign disk.

Interesting turn ... if I place the old drive either on the 1st IDE port and
the new on the 2nd IDE port, I boot to the old drive and can see both drives.
Same if I make the old drive the master and the new drive the slave I see
both drives. But if I reverse this process and make the old drive the slave
or its own master on the 2nd IDE port I see only the new drive.

Do you have tweakui installed?
If so open it up and look under the heading "my computer"-"drives" check all
of the boxes for drive letters and exit.

Good luck.
