Recently installed a Western Digital 160G drive as a desktop USB drive to
use for backups.
Getting the following error from windows when writing to it from time to time:
Windows was unable to save the data for the file xyz. The data has been
lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or
network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere.
I looked under disk management (in computer management) and noticed that the
drive is there but the drive letter (D) is missing - although it shows up
fine under "my computer".
Full backup went fine, then the first night of incrementals went fine.
Second night of incrementals produced this error so I suspected it may have
something to do with replacing or deleting files.
I tried a few manual operations.
I was able to drag and drop a file to it but when I deleted it, I got the
error as it tried to greate (I assume) a recycle folder.
I'm running win2k on a 1G Dell with one internal drive (C), CD & DVD (E&F),
floppy (A) and a network drive mapped to "Z".
Thanks!
