Draft as default print style on HP 692C

William

Each time I want to print an email from my msn.com
account, after hitting "print" I need to go
to "preferences" and specify "draft," to avoid printing in
the default "normal" print mode. How can I make "draft"
the default? Thanks!

1) Change the Preference defaults to draft. This is a per user setting.

As Admin user, open the Printers and Faxes Folder, right click on the
printer, select Properties. On the General Tab, click Printing
Preferences.... The quality setting will be different for each driver.
Since you did not mention which model you'll have to check through each tab
on this page and the Advanced button on this page. Select Draft (you might
need to change the paper type to enable this on some ink jets). OK

Now if you do not what draft you'll need to specify this when you print the
job. This setting is specific to the printer and not to the email
application you use.

2) Change the Printing defaults to draft. This will affect all users of the
printer.

As Admin user, open the Printers and Faxes Folder, right click on the
printer, select Properties. On the Advanced Tab, click Printing Defaults..
Find the draft setting. OK.

Now if you do not what draft you'll need to specify this when you print the
job. This setting is specific to the printer and not to the email
application you use.

(read only if you really want to be complex.)
3) If you only want to enable draft for email. You can manually add a
printer using the Add Printer Wizard (select the same Port as the first
printer) with defaults set to draft mode. Make sure you name the printer
different so you know this one is the draft printer, then select it when in
your email application.
