Cannot print in draft mode on dot matrix printers through Windows XP and 2000

I was able to print to the dotmatrix printer on Windows 98
and use printer escape sequences to enhance the text in
the print. However some of my clients have switched over
to Windows XP and now they are not able to print to the
dotmatrix printer in draft mode or in printer native
fonts. I have gone through various messages but could'nt
find a solution. As in India draft printing is done
largely on dotmatrix printer I need a solution badly.

I have tested this on EPSON LQ 1070+ and EPSON LQ1150.
Infact I don't think the problem is with the printer
drivers because the problem occurs even if i choose
GENERIC/TEXT printer.
