Downloads very slow

With a wireless connection, my download speed from the Internet is
pretty much as close to my sync speed of 9Mbps, howover on the same PC
connected with a CAT5 ethernet cable it is extremely slow.
I did the same tests under Kanotix and the speed seemed pretty normal.
Sorry for just posting a link to another discussion, but I've now gone
through quite a bit to try and esolve this without a complete reinstall
of XP

Anybody got any ideas?

I fixed it - FINALLY
Problem were due to Protowall or more specifcally the Protowall Driver
As I rarely use Protowall anyhow, it's getting removed any minute now
