Downloads start normal then slow considerablly

Dell 8300, 4GB RAM, Windows XP Professional (OEM),
Comcast Cable 4MBps.

What could cause the downloads to start at 'normal'
download speeds, then as the download continues it slows
gradually until it ends up at speeds slower than 56k dial-
up? I was downloading a Roxio file (120MB) and it started
at 700Kbps and rapidly slowed to about 33Kbps. It slows
on other sites also. It was really noticeable with the
large file.

I have run numerous virus scans, spyware, adware, etc.,
anti-spyware, virus scan programs in safe and normal boot
on the computer. They found the machine clean in all
reports. So I am thinking this may be a setting problem.
Anyone have any ideas? Thank you.

That is normal. The downloads start fast because while you are clicking
on buttons deciding where to save the file, the download is already going
so when it first calculates the speed it seems very fast. This is why if
you dawdle when choosing where to download a small file, it seems to
download instantly - it was already downloading before you clicked "save"
(or whatever).

If you are worried about you speed you can go to broadbandreports.com and
test it there.

You are downloading from Kazaa or some similar file "sharing" site?

Why purchase cable service which advertises upto 4Mbps
when you can only download @ 33Kbps? My laptop downloads
@ about 400-500Kbps on the same network, same cable
service and same ftp. When I ping the same site with both
the laptop and desktop, the laptop return an average
93Kbps while the desktop reports are either timed out or
in the 1-3Kbps range. Anyone else have ideas as to what
is causing this? Thank you.
