Computer is slow

I have run a virus scan, defragmented my hard drive, don't have any adware or
spyware, and have done a memory diagnostic. My computer is still really
slow. It just started doing this yesterday however it has happend to me many
times in the past. Whenever a program uses nearly 100% of the CPU power and
you open another application, the computer screws up. Usually I just did a
system restore but I don't have any checkpoints that work. Right now it
takes an extra long time to start up, and runs really slow. Is there
anything else I can do besides reinstalling windows xp? Is there any such
thing as downloading a system restore checkpoint? Please help!!!

Look at the processes in Task Manager and see if anything is using a lot of
processor time. Try turning everything off in MSCONFIG and see if it
eliminates the problem. If it does turn them on a few at a time. Doing a
system restore without defining the problem only leads to more problems.
Read some of the Help section on system restore and educate yourself what it
is and does.
