Downloading Zip files

I am having trouble downloading zip files from outside links (ie - a link in
an adobe document or email). When I click on the link I do not get a window
that asks if I want to download, it just gives me a blank page. I have
already checked the "folder options" and selected the option to confirm open
after download - but that does *not* correct the problem.

Help!

Hi Patti :)

You did not give the version of Windows you are using, so I will have to be
general. Try the following and see if it helps:

Check your firewall, make sure there are no settings that will block
downloading zip or EXE files from the Internet. Try disabling the firewall
and any popup blocker. If you have NIS, disable it.

Zip Files Downloaded with Internet Explorer Are Not Saved to Your Computer

also....

Try right-clicking the mouse on the file and select Save As, and see if it
will download/save it then. If that does not work, do the Save As and change
the extension to say...PDF., txt or jpg..something, and save it to your
desktop. Then change the extension back to Zip. See if that will work. Not
the cure, but, if it will allow you to get the file you need now, might be
worth a try.

and..

also...

Under IE-Tools>Internet Options>Security>Internet>Customize
Level> Downloads>File Download, is this enabled?

Hope this helps

I'm not sure if this applies to your problem but I've experienced similar
behavior before. In the past when I've tried to open Adobe Acrobat files
(*.PDF) I am sometimes shown a blank page that appears to be loading
something but nothing ever happens. After minimizing windows I found that a
msesage appeared in the background asking if I wanted to install an update
for Adobe Acrobat. After allowing Acrobat to update the PDF loads normally.
Perhaps there's a message box hidden somewhere that needs a response.

Is it only ZIP files you're having a hard time opening? What ZIP utility do
you use (WinZIP, WinRAR, WinACE, or Windows native support)? which Web
browser are you using (Internet Explorer, Firefox, other)? Which programs
will not allow you to download (Outlook Express, Outlook, hotmail, ...)?

Also, defiantely try right-clicking and choosing "Save Target As...".

I am using XP Professional, SP2

I am unable to right click and save as, because the links are externail to
IE, so they don't give me the "save" option.

I only have the problem with Zip files - and will check the firewall to see
if that is the problem.

Thanks!

How to set IE, so that it won't open a .zip file upon complete download?
It will be wise if it just directly save the archive without open it!.

Using:
XP Pro Version 2002 SP2.
IE : 6.0.2900.2180 .xpsp_sp2_rtm.04083-2158
DAP : 7.1.0.0
