downloading updates for word 2000

I HAVE A DELL 8100 THAT CAME WITH ME AND LAST YEAR I
BOUGHT XP DIRECTLY FROM MICROSOFT AND LOADED IT, LAST
YEAR. TODAY I ATTEMPTED TO DOWNLOAD UPDATES 814078 AND kb
828028 AND THE COMPUTER WILL NOT ACCEPT THE DOWNLOAD. CAN
ANYONE ADVISE OR SUGGEST SOME THINGS TO TRY. THANK YOU

I would guess your lacking some major SP's & or hot fixes
you did'nt say if your laptop is all updated @ microsoft update
