downloading recommended updates from Microsoft

HELP! I am trying to download the recommended updates
for my computer direct from Microsoft, however I get the
following error message and it terminates whatever I am
trying to download.

"The software you are installing has not passed Windows
Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP".

What's going on??

Have you run the Windows Update troubleshooter? Here's a link:
