Downloaded Office 2007 in error

HELP!! I've done a terrible, terrible thing. I downloaded the trial
version of one of the Office 2007 programs. I thought it would download,
but NOT REPLACE my Office 2003 that was installed by Dell when I purchased
this computer last June. I'm a novice--I hope this helps to explain my
computer illeteracy. #1-I don't need the 2007 version as I'm still trying to
figure out how to use the 2003 version! #2-I can't afford the 2007 as I'm 68
and on a very low fixed income.
Can someone please get my Office 2003 back on my computer???

Also my "dictionary" seems to have gone away as my spell check used on my
e-mails doesn't seem to recognise even the most simple words such as
"today". It must (I hope) be tied into the Office 2007 that I downloaded
I tried to use my "Restore" thing for before I downloaded the Office 2007,
but it didn't help.

Hi

Where did you download Office 2007 from?

If you use Outlook Express - open it and go to:

Tools>Options> Spelling

Under the Langague drop down menu has it defaulted to French?

Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs

There should be two Office entries in the list

Office 2007 (whatever version)
Office 2003 (whatever version)

Click on Office 2007 (whatever version) and Uninstall.

Your Office 2003 (whatever version) will remain.

When you launch any Office program, it should now be the 2003 version.

This assumes that there were two discrete versions of Office still in
the computer. But this would not be successful if the downloaded Office
2007 installed itself on top of Office 2003. IIRC, there is no re-install
capability when a prior version of Office is over-written.

Thanks for pointing that out.

I've always installed new versions of Office without removing prior
versions.

Thanks for your help.

I got Microsoft Downloads when checking to see if I had all the latest
security updates installed for my WindowsXP. A "thing" appeared offering me
Office 2007 Trial version to see if I liked it. Being naive, I didn't know
it would be so expensive should I want to buy it!

Thanks, you're rite, it is French. Why?

More inportant how do I get the English dictionary back?
I've spent 4 hours trying to do it on my own. I went into the Office 2007
trying to change it and got totally lost and frustrated as the dictionary
there seems to be in Engish!

Thanks for your help.

I had previously gone to the Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs
Unfortunately, it would appear that the Office 2007 has replaced or written
over the Office 2003.

What now?

Thanks.

That's incredible!
If they market it as a "Trial Version", what do they expect to happen to the
user if the user declines the offer to download and buy the Office 2007?

Any idea what would happen if I went into the Control Panel and deleted the
Office 2007.
Would my Office 2003 show up or would I be left with no Office Program?

Contact Dell or check the documentation that came with your computer. There
should be a restore partition on your computer to get you back to the
original installation - or parts of the original condition.

Contact Microsoft and fuss like the third monkey on Noah's gangplank. Their
"trial" evidently destroyed viable software on your computer and that's not
right.

Failing all else, MS Office 2003 is available, in various incarnations, on
Ebay for around $200.00.

Thanks. Interesting that of all on board (including Noah) you should pick
the monkey! Sounds to me as if you had something to do with the use of the
"Caveman" on the Giego commercial!!

I did go back to the last "Checkpoint" before downloading the 2007 on the
Restore Program. However, it didn't help.

Your suggestion made me look at what Dell sent me when I bot this computer
with the WindowsXP operating system. They sent me the "Office Basic Edition
2003 CD (still sealed in the original package). As you suggested, I'll
contact Dell and see what they say.

I'm still amazed that Microsoft would eliminate and/or write-over my 2003,
if in fact they did.
Thanks again,
David - aka "The Third Monkey"
PS I'm still trying tp figure out how to get my "English" dictionary back
instead of the "French" one that Outlook Express defaulted to (as Will Denny
mentioned in one of the threads)
