Can I Install M.S. Office 2007?

| Hi:
| I want to purchase Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 Full,
| although I need ONLY 'Power-Point' for my intended project.
|
| An Issue is my PC with XP has only 'Word 2000.' Then my concern
| is whether I am able to install 'M.S. Office Home and Student 2007'
| over the 'Word 2000?'
|
| If there is a conflict due to older version of Word 2000, what should
| I need to take appropriate procedure in order to install 'M.S. Office
| Home 2007' successfully.
|
| Thanks for your help in advance.

Yes, you can install Office 2007 and it will take over. No special preparation is required.
However, be aware that Office 2007 is very different than what you have been using.
You will have a very significant learning curve to master the new menu system.
Also, Office 2007 will kill the spell checker in your Outlook Express.

Yes you can install it on Windows XP. As to the interaction with other
Office applications, I suggest asking in the office group instead of the
XP operating system group.

Yes, you can do a custom install and install only Powerpoint

: Thanks for the response. I really appreciate it.
:
: One more question I need to ask is,
: Whether I can choose to install ONLY 'Power-Point?'
: Because, I love to have Word 2000 and a change is not
: always beneficial to other programs, as you quote.

: Thanks again,

It makes sense to buy Office H&S even if you only intend to install
PowerPoint, because as near as I can tell, the price difference is only
a few dollars.

You should probably do a custom install and install only PowerPoint 2007.

After you have installed PP 2007, the fact that you have Word 2000 may
result in an annoying pop-up window asking you to wait while Word is
configured when you open Word 2000 after having used PP 2007. This may
also happen when you open PP 2007 after you have opened Word 2000 (only
then it will ask you to wait while PP is configured).

I don't *know* that this happens between Word 2000 and PP 2007, but if
it does, see these articles:

Why don't you instead buy a copy of Office 2000 Professional? I bet you
can still find it. That way you won't mix versions.

Yes, you can install only PowerPoint. As a matter of fact, you can
even buy just PowerPoint, and not the whole suite. If PowerPoint is
all you want, you should check its price against the Microsoft Office
Home and Student suite to see which is the better buy.

But if you do get Office, I recommend installing all of it. Yes, as
Richard points out, there are significant differences in all the apps,
not just Word. It's true that you will have to get used to the ribbon,
instead of the menu system you are accustomed to, but you'll have to
do that with PowerPoint anyway. And, unlike Richard, I don't think
that the ribbon takes that long to learn how to use, and wouldn't call
it a "very significant learning curve."

Why ask HERE? Do you see WORD or OFFICE in this group's title? NO.

Ask elsewhere

Eight responses above yours says you're either too slow, too late, probably both. Keep up
the good humour F@rt'n.
