Installing MS Office Student 2007 with MS Office Student 2003

K

Keith

Hi I just received MS Office for Home & Student 2007 and I already have MS
Office student 2003 installed. My question is will Outlook 2003 be removed
if I install MS Office 2007?

Thanks.

Keith

MS Office for Home & Student 2007 does not include MS Outlook.

You should be able to install MS Office for Home & Student 2007 and keep MS
Outlook 2003 installed but best to ask the question in an Outlook-specific
newsgroup for best advice:

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.outlook.general

[or] news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.outlook.installation

PS: If you're using Windows Live Mail, why do you care?

I don't think so, but you really ought to ask the experts in Office
newsgroups.

Since Office 2007 programs can read and write files in Office 2003 format,
there is little reason to fret. I have noticed that Office 2007 Excel files
are quite a bit smaller than the same spreadsheet in Office 2003 format.

PA Bear has already answered your question,
but being a grasshopper I would suggest the
microsoft.public.office.setup group just in case
you have other issues.

Keith,

This is a question for the Office newsgroups

Will 2003 be removed? Install 2007 to a different location & not the default

One thing you will find though is the MAPI32 error saying you have the
incorrect version of the file & to re-install the application. Of course
re-install doesn't fix the problem

Why not use the 2003 install & use the 2007 compatibility pack (and sp2) to
make everything work correctly?

OP is already aware MS Office for Home & Student 2007 does not include
MS Outlook. That's why he posted the question. :)
You should be able to install MS Office for Home & Student 2007 and

That's good to know. But I would intuitively think that would cause some
registry confusion and other possible conflicts. But I admittedly have
no experience and thus no clue. :) Still, let's crosspost this puppy to
the group you mentioned below:

[Daave, with all due respect, will you please stop second-guessing me and
hijacking my threads? It makes no sense whatsoever to crosspost to another
newsgroup when the OP hasn't returned to his thread here. Besides, for all
we know, he may have begun a new thread in an OL-specific newsgroup using
the links I gave him in my first reply. Thanks.]

And with respect to you, I am not doing this to upset you; I am just
trying to help the OP. There is no hijacking or second-guessing, either.
Just clarification. I think it does make sense to crosspost because this
way an expert in Outlook who may know the answer to OP's question will
answer to both groups. If OP comes back to this thread (and it hasn't
been that long since he posted!), he will then get his answer.

If there is a consensus, however, that I am acting incorrectly, I am
open to those arguments.

Installing H&S 2007 will not touch any program that is not included in H&S
2007, thus Outlook will remain untouched. There is no confusion, registry
or otherwise.

The only issue will be the use of Themes in Outlook mail. Outlook must be
the same version and installed from the same Office suite for themes to
work.

The only issue will be the use of Themes in Outlook mail. Outlook must be
the same version and installed from the same Office suite for themes to
work.

Also they will not be able to use Word as the mail editor, there may be issues
with spelling and grammar checking, and mail merge could have problems.
