hi, there,

I have a qestion for downloading on XP.
I have a high speed internet connection in my home network, as well as a
router in the network.
I tried to some internet speed test tools and they said my internet speed
was around 240Kbps. but when I download some huge files from microsoft web
site, the download speed is just about 30Kbps. why it is so slow?

My XP version is SP2.

I installed any updates for XP from microsoft.

Any help I would appriciate it very much!

Gary

That's pretty much normal. Speed tests rate in kiloBITS per second.
Download speed is reported in kiloBYTES per second. In general, divide the
"speed rating" by 8 and you should get your download speed.

Microsoft could be "throttling" the connection. Do you have the same results
with many other web sites? Some websites limit the download speeds of
connections. If you were on a T3 line and got 30KBS, then how would you
feel, it happens.

Provided you've got Win XP with SP2 installed, you can run the following
command to reset your Winsock file which should speed thing up for you even
when downloading files from MS:

1. Go to Start --> Run, type "CMD" (without quotes) to get a command prompt.
2. Type: "netsh winsock reset" (without quotes) and hit Enter.
3. Reboot the PC.
