Download of Windows Updates takes hours on dial up - is there a disk?

J

Jim Ryan

Dear Newsgroup,
Like most Americans, I have a dial-up connection to the
internet. When I try to download the Windows XP Critical
updates my machine has been on line for 7 hours and still
isn't even half way done! Isn't it possible to get these
updates on a CD disk? Or to have someone download them
with their broadband connection and burn a CD for me to
use on my machine? Is this practical?
There must be an alternative to tying up my machine, my
phone and Microsoft's servers for hours and hours at a
time in order to get these 'critical updates'.
Thank you for your prompt response.
