XP Patches Too Big for Dial-Up?

I would like to make a CD of all the security patches and
updates needed for my XP Home (SP1) system. However, with
a dial-up connection, this would take many hours. Can I
get everything I would need by downloading to a different
PC with a fast connection then copy and install the
patches via a CD? Once I get the updates, I think I could
keep up to date.

Hi

You can download the individual updates from the Windows Update Catalog:

Service pack 2 should be out in a month or so, Microsoft
says you can pick up the CD for it at any computer
retailer when it is available for free. You may want to
consider waiting until that is released.

Respectfully disagree - there's no final release date yet, and even one
month is too long to wait. Lots of creepy crawly things out there that can
give you trouble on an unpatched system.

To the OP: See if you can still get the Security Update CD:
