Hi

If you want to download updates from a computer for later installs
on same or another computer, you can use Windows Update Catalog:

HOW TO: Download Windows Updates and Drivers from the Windows Update Catalog

Hi

SP1 and SP1a is the same regards to updates, the only difference is that MS Java Virtual machine is removed from SP1a due to a legal dispute with SUN.

There are a lot of updates released after SP1/SP1a.

Note this one:

Update Rollup 1 for Windows XP Is Available
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=826939

The Update Rollup for XP contains 22 updates for Windows XP released
after SP1 in one package (do not download the express-installation version if
you want to do a off-line install!)

You should at least install the following critical updates released after the rollup package:

KB823182: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-041.asp
KB828035: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-043.asp
KB825119 http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-044.asp

Then you have the latest Cumulative security update for Internet Explorer:

KB824145 http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-048.asp

Then you would look into if you need any other security updates on other
components, e.g. Media Player,Windows Messenger, IIS etc.
