Downgrading XP Pro 'Server'

S

spence_duncan

I'm hoping that this is a simple question.

I have an XP Pro machine acting as a 'Server' (handling comms, printing
etc.) for my small wired and wireless network. It was set up using the
Home Networking Wizard and has been working fine.

I've now bought a new machine and want that to act as the server
instead, downgrading the existing machine to a standard 'workstation'.

I don't suppose there is a Wizard for this?

Guessing not, does anyone know how it can be done? I'm sure that DHCP
settings will need to be changed, but I don't know about anything else.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

TIA

Hi Duncan,

To provide you a better reply, we may need to know how the computers are
configured. If the network is through a wired/ wireless router, there is no
need for any configuration change in DHCP. If your existing Pro server is
sharing internet through Internet connection sharing feature, you may have to
disable that and enable it in your new server.

Regarding the printers, you can install the printers in your new computer
and share it. Remove the sharing of the printer in your exiting server and
delete the printers in the client computers. Configure the clients to use the
printer installed in the new server after sharing it.
