xp pro - xp home

I've got two computers I'm trying to network through a DI-624 router using
the wired connections. One runs xp pro and the other xp home. I've run the
network setup wizard on both PCs and they have the same workgroup name. I
even disconnected the router from the internet and then turned off the
Windows Firewall and the computers still couldn't see each other. What else
should I look at?

My end goal is file sharing and sharing a printer connected to the xp pro
machine. I had this configuration working previously, but after a reformat,
I can't get it working again.

Have you set File and Printer sharing on each computer?

On each WinXP PC, create local user account(s), with non-blank
password(s), that have the desired access privileges to the desired
shares. Log on to the other PCs using those account(s), and you will be
able to access the designated shares, provided your network is
configured properly. Also, make sure that WinXP's built-in firewall is
disabled on the internal LAN connection.

Usually, WinXP's Networking Wizard makes it simple and painless --
almost entirely automatic, in fact. There's a lot of useful,
easy-to-follow information in WinXP's Help & Support files, and here:
