Downgrading from an HT processor

We had an XP SP1 system in which we replaced the
processor with an HT processor for some testing. We have
now gone back to the original processor, but it appears
the HAL did not downgrade as well. I say this because
the Computer component under Device Manager still
indicates ACPI Multiprocessor PC. Prior to upgrading to
the HT processor, this was ACPI Uniprocessor PC. We
would like to know how to change this back to ACPI
Uniprocessor PC.

Based on some information in other posts, I tried
Upgrading the driver so I could select ACPI Uniprocessor
PC from the list. However, it was no longer there.
Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC was
listed, but according to MS KB article Q299340, that is
for a single processor motherboard and ours (since it is
HT-capable) is a multiprocessor motherboard.

Any ideas why ACPI Uniprocessor is no longer listed? Did
this get removed when we upgraded the CPU? How do we go
back to this without reinstalling XP?

I'm just re-posting this as I haven't gotten any response yet. Would
appreciate any ideas you may have.
