Does the Intel Core Duo support Windows XP x64 Edition?

Can someone tell me if the Intel Core Duo will support the windows XP x64
Editiion. I looked at the Q & A on the Microsoft site and it just gave me
"Windows XP Professional x64 Edition is designed to work with 64-bit
processors from AMD and Intel that support the x64 extensions to the x86
architecture. These include the Athlon 64, Athlon 64 FX, Mobile Athlon 64,
Turion 64, and Opteron processors from AMD, and the Xeon with EM64T and
Pentium 4 with EM64T from Intel." I can't believe the new laptops that are
coming out with the Intel Core Duo will not work with the OS. Does anyone
know?

All versions of Windows XP will support the new
Intel Dual Core processors. However, you must
have a 64-bit processor in order to install the 64-bit
version of Windows XP Profeesional.

Dual Core is a new technology designed to improve performance
of multithreaded software products and hardware-aware multitasking
operating systems. Not all software applications will necessarily benefit
from use of this technology.
