Does ATI HDMI Audio with with AC97 sound?

Paul

Hi all,

I'm helping someone in the US at the mo (remotely using Teamviewer).

He's using an ASUS ATI HD EAH3450 videocard which supports DVI, HDMI, and
VGA.

I've managed to find the right drivers for the sound, for this card (the
drivers are video drivers, and include the HDMI Audio drivers for the HDMI
sound output on this card). In the install

They're fine on this system ( it uses Realtek HD Audio)

And the ati hd audio rear output entry appears under the audio tab (on the
system here).

However, the same drivers dont work on this guys system (Its an Emachine AMD
system).

I've since found out its a MSI RS-480M-IL mobo

The ati hd audio rear output entry doesnt want to appear in sounds / audio
tab.

He's uninstalled the ATI drivers a few times (he's tried the ATI 8.10/11
drivers, which dont install/include the HDMI Audio drivers).

He used drivercleaner to remove the rest of these drivers after.

So, any idea, WHY he cant get the HDMI Audio drivers to install (they may
have installed, BUT the entry for it refuses to appear under the Audio
tab), when it appears on mine??

Is it because, his sound is AC97 and not HD Audio, or something??

Any info appreciated. He's using XP Home SP3

Thanx

To be able to have the sound over HDMI, the sound card must have
Digital out or SPDIF.

Its not the soundcard, thats got HDMI, its a videocard
which has HDMI / VGA and DVI on it.

The soundcard on this hasnt got SPDIF (altho there is a SPDIF headers on the
mobo), or a digital connection

And the HDMI Audio drivers install OK

The videocard has 5:1 onboard (on it). So shouldnt need SPDIF or digital to
plug into it

Theres no connections on this card anyway. So, you cant plug anything into
anything on it

The ATi video card does not have sound controls. You need to get the
digital audio out from the sound card and connect it to HDMI "audio-
in" jack on the ATi card. This is required to send the audio out over
the HDMI cable. The main method to do this is to connect a SPDIF to
HDMI cable in between the HDMI enabled video card and sound card.

Like I just said, there are NO connections on the videocard. Its got 5:1
onboard.

The only things on it are the DVI/VGA, and HDMI connection. No other inputs
or outputs are on it.

On the back,or on the card itself

And like I also said, I've got HDMI sound going (in 2 channel obviously),
since the monitor has only got 2 speakers). And I'm only using a HDMI cable
