Does anyone know why I keep getting this in the Event Log?

Almost without exception, whenever my XP Pro notebook experiences a
crash, I find this in the event log as occurring immediately before the
crash. The content of the data dump is ALWAYS the same, without
variation. I've sent the notebook to warranty repair three times with
this error and each time they have neglected to address it directly.
The main board(and presumably the HD controller, which I think is
integrated) was replaced entirely. Microsoft's site contains no useful
information helping me narrow this down. Is it the hard disk itself or
the controller? Or both? What leads to such an issue?

Thanks. One other thing I wanted to add that may or may not change
your idea of what could be wrong...99% of the time, when the system
reboots after one of these events being logged, the message that comes
up just after the BIOS and just before Windows would load is:

"Press 'H' for hard disk or any other key for floppy"

Pressing 'H' simply results in the same message again. Putting in a
floppy does nothing either. Rebooting and then disabling the floppy in
BIOS settings results in a "floppy failure" message and then a hard
disk error message.

Here's the kicker. The only way to get the system to come back to
Windows when this occurs is to take out the battery and press the power
button about 30 times. For some reason, it seems that the machine has
some residual power even after the system is turned off and the battery
removed (hanging around in capacitors?). By pressing the power button,
that residual seems to get discharged enough that the message goes away
and Windows can start.

Does that still sound like a cable problem? If so, I'll ship it off to
the warranty people with a printout of our conversation and that'll be
the end of it, hopefully (if they don't believe you, who *will* they
believe?).

Thanks again for your time.
