With a second-hand computer, it is best practice to do a clean install of
Windows.

you will need on-hand

If you don't want to do that, then you will need to create your own user
account, log into it, and then delete the James account.

If I bought a used computer, even if from a friend, the first thing I would
do with it would be to reinstall the operating system cleanly. You have no
idea how the computer has been maintained, what has been installed
incorrectly, what is missing, what viruses and spyware there may be, etc. I
wouldn't want to live with somebody else's mistakes and problems,
possibility of kiddie porn, etc., and I wouldn't recommend that anyone else
do either.

I totally agree! Great advice. But to answer the OP, follow the
direction listed in the link provided:
http://www.worldstart.com/tips/tips.php/1613

But again, I have to agree with Ken. It is not a good idea to perform
the follow above. I would perform the tasks Ken provided for the obvious
reason listed.

In addition, you will also find out if he gave you ALL the software on the
system (including non-WIndows XP software that he included) in case in the
future you HAVE to do it. If you don't have all the disks, you're hosed.
