do i need to buy a new pc to get window vista? or can i just buy a window
vista cd and install it on the pc i have already that has window xp home.

Yes, there are copies of Vista that will upgrade existing systems. You
should check your current hardware with the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor at
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/upgradeadvisor/default.mspx
to be sure your system is capable of running Vista.

Check your specification on the computer to see if it is sufficient to run
Vista. If you meet at least the minimum requirements, you can buy and
install on your current PC
