buying a new pc

KRK

Hello,

I'm thinking of buying a new pc. I currently use vista home premium.

If I buy a new pc will I be able to copy an 'image' of my old pc to the new
one. Or will I have to reinstall everything ?

My data files are not a problem, I have backups.

What worries me is all the time it will take to re-install my progs
(including some I might have to buy again as they can only be installed on
one pc)

Also, I have a lot of downloaded freebies which I find very useful.

Thanks for all help & advice

Unless the hardware is very similar to your present PC (then why bother
'upgrading'?), it will not work due to missing drivers and other problems.

It will have to be a full, clean install.

Some may say you can try the image and then do a 'repair install' - good
luck with that!

If you are buying a new PC, it will come with an operating system (probably Vista) already on
it. Just reinstall the programs you like the most and then copy your data to the new pc.

Not necessarily. I just built a new PC with no OS on it. Some people,
like you, are too stupid to learn how to build their own PCs and have to
resort to Big Store USA and the crapware they throw on every PC they sell.

Just reinstall the programs you like
the most and then copy your data to the new pc.

Or wipe the hard drive and install a real operating system like Ubuntu.

Sorry ****wit. I have built many PC's in my time. It's easy to do and since I have my OS for
free I can install it without all that crap HP, Dell, Toshiba, Sony, and others load the
computers with.

You are just too poor to use Windows. You have to use that INFERIOR Ubuntu to connect to the
world. You can't even go anywhere because you have no transportation. Damn, even with that
imaginary $14k a week you claim to get from the tooth fairy, you still have to scrimp and save.

Loser.

Nobody needs to wipe their system clean to install that CRAPPY Ubuntu. Remember, Ubuntu has
been free for years and is still on LESS THAN one percent of the desktops out there.

People try Ubuntu, realize what a piece of CRAP it is then quickly wipe it off their machines
and put Windows back on.

It MAY come with an operating system (not necessarily vista), but it's
certainly NOT necessarily so.

The important thing to note is that it doesn't come with Ubuntu. Nobody needs that crappy
Ubuntu on their PC unless they want to waste time and effort.

You obviously don't know the difference between "buy" & "build".
Figures!

Yes, I do. First one buys the parts and then one builds. Simple enough
for you, moron?
Only broke losers like you are forced to use that POS toy os.

I am not broke and I haven't lost anything. Course, we all know you have
this problem that you think if someone has less money than you do or
doesn't use Windows, they are inferior to you. It must be pretty lonely
in Frank's World.

A lie.

Another lie.

Just rented a car. Oops.

Which translates into over 10 million and climbing.

See the thread in alt.os.linux.ubuntu with the title "I'm amazed!" which
has experiences of recent converts from Windows to Ubuntu. Oops, you
lied again. Are you related to Britney Spears and that's why you don't
identify yourself? Perhaps you *are* Britney spears and Oops, you did it
again!

This is true if you are as stupid as this nymshifter and are *unable* to
install Ubuntu properly and get everything out of it one needs.

Even a monkey can install Ubuntu. That's why even you can install Ubuntu. What happens after
the install is what people are talking about. Once they see that SHIT Brown background, and
that Ubuntu can't run their programs, they wipe that INFERIOR Ubuntu off their PC's and install
Windows so they can use their quality programs to get real work done.

That is the way of the computing world pal. Live with it.

If not, go smoke a BOWL.

More lies.

That doesn't say much about you, being as you can't. Let's see how
Ubuntu savvy you are. What needs to be done to completely install Compiz
and all its features? You have five minutes to scramble around the
Ubuntu forums to find an answer because I *know* you don't know.

The man doesn't know the difference between have to and want to. You
really are dense, aren't you?

I not you didn't reply to this:

It certainly CAN come with Ubuntu - a high quality Open Source operating
system. You simply have to look a little. It's very useful if you value
your time and effort, as considerably less of both will be needed to keep
it in shape. For example, no virus scanners needed, no constant
defragmentation needed, no periodic reinstall needed to regain lost
performance, no registry issues, . . .

Usually your "one-PC only" licenses can transfer to a ne wPC provided
you do not use them on the old PC anymore.

I use Belarc Advisor to make a list of the installed programs on a PC
before I migrate to the new PC. The Windows migration tool also exist
to help with settings and data, but I find that it either transfers a
lot of junk or not enough and I can't get some stuff to work
afterwards. SO I end up simply copying my data files which are all in
one directory (Documents) and then I reinstall and set up all the
programs again. It makes for a good, clean install for a few weeks. :)

So, putting the Ubuntu Cd in the drive and clicking OK or setup doesn't install? Is that what
you are saying? I thought you could just install Ubuntu in a few minutes according to you.

Who gives a rats ass about Compiz or what it is or does. By the way I didn't even look it up
because according to you, all you need to do is just run the install. Now you are saying you
need to look up a bunch of shit to complete the installation?

No wonder why so many people ditch that piece of crap Ubuntu. They don't want to scurry around
the internet for crap they know nothing about.

Just FYI.

I have installed Ubuntu but that was at least 8 months ago. I tend to forget about junky
products that I don't need so if I don't remember some shit about Compiz then BFD.

If you ask most of the people out there what Compiz is they will say "What the **** are you
talking about"?

I use what works. Windows solutions work just fine for me and most everyone else.

Ubuntu is just a TOY OS for playing around with. You know, those geeks who can't get laid use
Ubuntu.

You've already proved that you've never installed it. You don't need to
do it again. In short, all the LIES you've told about Ubuntu are not
based on an honest appraisal of the OS but FUD you've read somewhere and
believed.
