Do I need another server?

Hi,

I need to create a child domain within a w2k active
directory domain. I am almost sure I will need an extra
computer to do that. Is that the case?

You will need another DC to create a child domain.

Every domain needs at least 1 Domain Controller and for fault tolerance,
you really should have at least 2 DCs (and be backing up on a regular basis
including a System State. You should also be testing your backups as a
backup you can't restore is useless.
