How to Configure DNS Settings

I need to setup 3 Domains in our lab.

Root Domain - d1.com
Child Domain - child-d1.com (Child domain of the
previous domain)

Another Domain - d2.com (should be in the same forest)


I want to configure only 1 DNS Server(in the root domain DC).
Pls suggest me the sequence of steps to do the same. All M/cs are w2k
only.

Well you asked how to do it then said you want to do it with only one DNS
server. The way to do it right is to allow Windows to create zones for the
child domains when the DCs for those domains are brought up. Then create a
zone for each child domain in the root domain and delegate authority back to
the child. That allows resolution throughout and simplifies DNS setup, since
domains require SRV records for domain services.

First i need to know how to configure d1.com& d2.com in a single
forest. Pls give the steps or any other document to configure the same.
