Do I need a recovery disk to upgrade from 98?

Currently i'm running Win 98 SE on a HP Pavillion 8660c. I would like to
upgrade to XP Home Edition. If the upgrade version askes for a Win 98 CD,
will the recovery cd provided by HP work? Also, if the install fails and i
want to return to Win 98, will my recovery cd work? Anything suggested would
be helpful.

First - with what seems to be a 256MB limit on memory and lack of support
for hardware in Windows XP - I would rethink actually upgrading. Your
reasoning would have to be pretty compelling.

Notice the number of XP drivers when you select that OS..

As for your direct question - no idea if the recovery CD will work.. If it
is a true "recovery CD" and not a Windows 98 installation CD - no - it will
not.

As for recovering back to Windows 98 - that's what it was made to do - will
it work for sure - no one can say in your particular case. heh
