URGENT! Will XP upgrade version work on 98SE OEM?

I have previously posted about upgrading a clean formatted machine using XP Home Edition Upgrade and a Win 98 SE disk which I used with my OLD computer

I was told I could install the XP upgrade without installing 98 first, just pop the 98 CD in when asked to verify an existing Win operating system

I'm about to go out and buy the upgrade, but it just occurred to me: Can I use the 98SE OEM disk on the NEW computer to upgrade using the XP upgrade version, or would this only work on the OLD computer

Q. "Can I use the 98SE OEM disk on the NEW computer to upgrade using
the XP upgrade version, or would this only work on the OLD computer?"

A. If you are not running Windows 98 on your old computer, the answer is yes.
If you intend to continue running Windows 98 on your old computer, then
you cannot use that CD to qualify for the upgrade version of Windows XP.
If that is the case, you need a "full version" of Windows XP in order to
perform a clean install on the new computer. This is due to the fact the original
full version software and the upgrade version software together constitute a
single software program.

I know, I kno

But I already had the guy at the store holding the last copy for me when I realised there might be a problem..

Didn't want to come home & have the thing not work.

Greetings --

If that OEM Win98 license came with the new computer, than it can
be used to qualify for the Upgrade. If, however, the OEM Win98 CD
came with, and was installed upon, another computer, than it may not
legitimately be transferred to the new computer to act as an Upgrade
qualifier.
