DNS problems with dialup RAS

Hi,

I have a few clients who dials in to our domain for there exchange mail.
For some strange reson, they are unable to ping our domain name but are able to ping the ip. If they use the fully qualified domain name they are able to ping the server.

At head office everybody can ping the domain, even some who is not on the domain, but who is working on WORKGROUPs.

COuld somebody please tell me how to correctly setup the RAS server for the dial in clients. The exchange server is on the save PC as the RAS.

Thanks in advance

If you can ping using the FQDN, the client must have the correct DNS
server address. So the problem is probably the DNS suffix.

In the client's connection properties, specify the correct DNS suffix to
be used with the connection (ie the suffix that the LAN clients use).

The domain suffix you put on the client is the same as the actual DNS
zone where the information is. If your servers are registered in a DNS zone
called "mycompany.com.za", then that is the DNS suffix you need to enter in
the client's connection properties. The DNS query will add this suffix to
the machine's name, so that it looks for servername.mycompany.com.za in DNS
.. DNS should reply with the server's IP address.

Thanks for replying

But can you elabarate a bit more on the DNS suffix. I have never worked with that before.
Our exchange server is known by <i>Domain</i>
Our full DNS name is <i>Domain.Dom.xx.xx</i>

The client is on a workgroup. And not part of the domain.

I can ping the <i>domain.dom.co.za</i> and it will give the the ipaddress
for that server and this same server is also our DNS server.
Should I add the <i>DOmain</i> or the <i>domain.dom.xx.xx</i> in the DNS suffix

How can I make RAS use the same IP Addrsses for every user that dials in.
It now use a different one each time for the same user.
