DNS Error??

K

Kathy

I'm running IE6.0.28 on an ME machine. I've had problems
connecting to the internet and worked thru things
yesterday with my ADSL provider to the point that they
say the problems on my end since I can ping the gateway
and the DNS server.

After reading thru this forum, I went to eliminate any
scumware by Seeing the Dealing with Unwanted Spyware,
Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm recommended
several times.

I followed all instruction and downloaded, installed and
ran the latest versions of HijackThis, CWShredder, SpyBot
and Ad-aware but have made no progress.

I can only get to my ADSL home page by typing in the IP
address - it won't resolve the name. If I do use the IP,
I still can't get any where because no matter what I
select I get the "page cannot be displayed: cannot find
server or DNS error"

Any recommendations for further troubleshooting or an out
and out solution would be greatly appreciated.

Try LSP-Fix - a free program to repair damaged Winsock 2 stacks
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm

Did you update Ad-Aware and Spybot S & D before scanning with them?
Where did you post your HijackThis log?

I downloaded the Adaware & Spybot & CWShredder &
HijackThis yesterday so I hope they would be up to date.
I'm downloading things to a laptop and putting them on
thumb drive to move to PC with problem since that PC
can't get on line.

I ran the LSP-fix suggested but not sure how to use it
even though I read the readme file.

mr20.dll
mswsosp.dll
msafd.dll
rsvpsp.dll

show up on the KEEP side - nothing on the remove side.
Should I remove something?

I re-ran HijackThis after trying LSP-fix and posted the
log file to the SWI forum in the section for
spyware/malware removal with a topic of "spyware caused
DNS error"
