Distressed MSAS user

Please help!

I downloaded and ran MSAS on my computer (OS - Windows XP)
yesterday. Everything appeared to be OK. However, when I
went to get online today I discovered that Internet
Explorer would not load any pages. My ISP went over
everything from their end with me. I can connect with no
problem. However, I can't get any pages to load in
Internet Explorer and also can't get any e-mail in
Microsoft Outlook. I have since uninstalled MSAS and
still have the same problem. I also disabled any restore
features on my computer yesterday so that any spyware
adware that was there wouldn't be restored. Now I don't
know how to fix my problem. Any help that you can provide
would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

If you go to Start, and then Run, type in cmd. Then type in ipconfig /all.
Copy and paste back what your results are.

If it says something about a media device not being connected then it's
possible the LAN cable is not plugged in all the way.

Another thing is to download and run the various winsock fixes that are out
there. Often times when you remove certain spywares they corrupt specific
system files that are keen to you being able to get online and use your
internet service. You should be able to find the winsock fix at
www.geekstogo.com.

Please try this:

Go to a command prompt, and type:

netsh winsock reset

and hit enter.

See whether that takes care of it.

Yes - I checked my firewall settings. They are not set to
be blocking anything. I don't use ZoneAlarm. I have one
through Windows and one through Norton System Works.

Often spyware puts hooks into the IE browser, when the
spyware is removed the program is non-functional. If you
have a real Windows XP CD, do a repair install.

Bill - you're awesome. It worked and I can now get access
the internet with Internet Explorer and get my e-mail with
Outlook. Thank you sooooo much!!!!!! I am thinking that
I probably shouldn't try the Windows AntiSpam Program
again. Maybe I will just stick with Spybot which hasn't
given me problems other than not finding and getting rid
of all the spyware/adware. Thanks again!

This is not exactly the fault of Microsoft Antispyware, it happens because
the spyware has placed the part of its own code in the chain of network
related libraries. After removing the spyware this chain was broken, and the
fix Bill Sanderson suggested repaired this chain. MSAS Team does know about
it and hopefully MSAS will have adequate procedures to fix this chain
automatically after removing spyware.
So do not abandon MSAS because of this (remember that it's still Beta) :)
MSAS still provides usefull functions and on-line protection! :)

Rhinda - can you go to Help, About, in Microsoft Antispyware and see what te
version number is there? Newer builds are intended to have this effect less
often, but I don't have any handle on when it does happen and when not.

Actually, now that your system is clean and in good shape, I'd have no
hesitation in keeping the beta in place and updating it. Unless you also
run Kazaa or some other peer to peer app.
