Display Properties Tabs missing!

I have an ATI All in Wonder 9700 Pro installed on my Windows XP SP1. It has been installed for about a year now and running alright. I went to change my settings recently and the DISPLAY PROPERTIES applet no longer has any tabs and the few items that show no longer do anything

I have tried reinstalling the complet suite for the card; the original and all new drivers programs etc. I also reloaded WinXP from CD as an upgrade, (I wanted to maintain my desktop and all loaded software), to no avail. The ATI All in Wonder 9700 Pro uses the Radeon Chip. The driver I currently have installed is their CATALYST Windows XP 4.3 - Driver (wxp-w2k-catalyst-7-991-040224m-013831c); the latest they have released.

Everything else works flawlessly. I run anti-virus that is updated nightly automaticly and set to do complete system scan of all files nightly, so virus is not the problem. I weekly run software that checks for Ad type things that might have snuck in, never found one as I am VERY conservative. I run a software firewall and am behind a Symantec VPN/Firewall 200r

I am generally able to fix about any problem that crops up on my network but this one has me stumped. Any ideas out there?

Did you install the latest ATI Control Panel when you upgraded to the 4.3
drivers???

I have an ATI Radeon 9800 and I am having a similar problem. I only se
the first tab under Display Properties. Thus, I can change m
background and theme setting but can't access the Appearance or Scree
Saver tabs. I can access the Settings tab by using the ATI Contro
Panel.
Any ideas...

Same problem here, but with and Intel graphics controller built in to my PC. The problem arose after recovering from a major Registry corruption. I found a .reg file on http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm, but I am reluctant to mess around with unknown registry tweaks.

Help would be appreciated.

Sorry, but there is no fix for this problem. I am working on a machin
which was upgraded from windows 98 to xp pro. I've tried many differen
driver versions for the onboard ATI RAGE PRO LT. The drivers have openg
support and all the tabs are still gone! So that's proof that Microsof
Knowledge Base Article 283751, is full of BS. And more importantly
nearly 4 years after posing that article and having released SP2 fo
XP, THIS PROBLEM STILL REMAINS UNFIXED! It remains so unfixed, that th
only solution seems a complete XP reinstall. Complete reinstall with o
OS with reinstallation of all software would take several days on thi
pc, and the client will not go for that.

I cant believe that installing SP2 over this installation will not fi
the problem.

And yes, of course I've checked all the registry entries and there ar
no settings that prohibit the tabs from being shown.

I've tried also some programs that claim that they can fix this... an
they can't.

So much time has passed since this problem has surfaced. THERE IS STIL
NO SOLUTION?! AHHHRGH!! BIG THUMBS DOWN TO MS FOR THIS BS.

Yep have the same problem. The tabs are visible under safe mode, just
not when running standard mode.

There are no third party software/themes installed. This is a pretty
clean upgrade instalation.

Yes must admit after a couple of hours trying to find a fix no joy. The reg
entry from kellys corner didn't work either. Got me stuffed as my display
properties functions on safe mode but not in normal mode. I will not give up
and hopefully can post a solution soon. Will not re-install xp to fix the
problem. I can still change my resolution using ATI prog.. Thanks anyway
people.

THANK YOU, HARRY!! My background tab had disappeared and I've been trying
for months to get it back. I followed your instructions and, voilá, it's
back!

There is a registry edit that I know of that will hide the Screen
Saver Tab?

Start > Run > Regedit

Navigate to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

If there is a DWoRD Value called "NoDispScrSavPage" with a data value
of 1
this will disable the screen saver tab. Change the value to 0 or
delete it to
see the tab again.

OMG i was on the microsoft chat and talking to some ppl, he told me
he read a forum that ppl had the same problom as mine, so he surched
for like 5 mina nd came back and gave me the link to this page, and
HARRY U ARE A SAVIOR~!!!!! thank you soooo much, and to GordSmack on
the microsoft chat that helped me.
