Hardware: Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop Core Duo T2300 @ 1.66GHz
2GB RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 Graphics Card

Software: Windows XP Pro SP3 totally up-to-date
Dell Video Driver version 8.261-060523a1-033841C
ATI Driver version 6.14.10.6618
ATI Catalyst Control Center version 1.2.2334.3712

After I installed IE8 and rebooted, only the top left quadrant of my desktop
was visible. At first during the boot process, the entire desktop is visible.
Then, perhaps when the ATI Catalyst Control Center loads, the desktop changes
so only the top left quarter is visible. During shutdown, when something,
possibly the ATI Catalyst Control Center, unloads, my entire desktop briefly
becomes visible again until my laptop shuts down.

I keep all my software up-to-date with Microsoft Update, Filehippo Update
Checker and Dell Support Center.

Do I have any other recourse than uninstalling IE8?

Finally, I've been using Microsoft Forums since Windows 98SE and I must say
that the current Forums interface is the worst thing I've ever seen in
addition to being difficult to locate.

Never mind. I uninstalled ie8 and that fixed the problem with my desktop. I
don't use IE anyway, so no great loss. Dare I say I use the F browser?

I do have to say that I'm left with the feeling that I can get more support
in a cemetery around 3 AM than I can get here.

Thanks for nothing.

Have a look at this post about the installation and use of IE8.
