I recently clean installed XP and now my Samsung SyncMaster 950p monitor
doesn't have many of the setting options it had prior to the clean install
(also running XP). Before reinstalling XP I was able to set the resolution
at 1280x1024 and the color quality at 24-bit. Now the highest resolution and
color quality available is 1024x786 with 8-bit color.
I suspect this is a driver problem, but I'm having difficulty determining if
the problem is with the monitor or the video card. The settings tab on the
Display Properties dialog indicates the display as: (Default Monitor) on...
[with nothing after the word 'on']. The Windows Device Manager doesn't seem
to recognize the Samsung monitor. The Device Manager's Other Devices
category lists Video Controller (VGA Compatible) with a big yellow question
mark. The driver tab of the Video Controller properties dialog indicates
Device Type = Other Devices, Manufacturer = Unknown, Location = PCI bus 0,
device 2, function 0. The Device Status = The drivers for this device are
not installed. (Code 28). To reinstall the drivers for this device, click
Reinstall Driver.
I haven't been able to locate a driver specifically for this monitor and
Windows XP. I wasn't able to install Samsung drivers for this monitor that
were for earlier OS. I've written to Samsung for info on an XP driver for my
monitor, but no answer yet.
The System Information dialog indicates the status as OK for 2 Video
Controllers (VGA Compatible) in the Memory section of the Hardware Resources
category. On the other hand, the Display listing in the Components category
doesn't list any items at all.
Any info that might shed some light on this situation is appreciated.
Thanks.
