I bought a new HP computer (2nd this year) and installed XP Pro. My ethernet
is not working and when I go to device mgr I have a ? by "other devices" then
the list
? ethernet controller
? PCI device
? PCI simple communications controller
? SM bus controller
? USB controller
? Video controller (VGA compatible)
I have not had this happen before when installing XP Pro. What did I do
wrong and how do I get these drivers back?

| Thank you!!

Go to HP, and based upon the HP PC model, donload the drivers for the hardware for WinXP.

Searching the HP website for my computer model (Pavillion a1100y) for driver
downloads got no results. I bought recovery discs from HP and get the error
message "not compatible with this product". I called HP support and they said
I would have to use their paid support option at $50 per incident. An HP chat
technician sent me what was supposed to be the correct drivers but when I try
to install them using device manager I get the message that the correct
driver could not be found in the files I try to use. I still don't understand
how this happened!
