Display AS field = UserName () no address

Outlook 2003 - when adding or updating a contact record, and entering the
email address, email addresses will be listed that you could select or you
can type in the full address. Either way, when you tab to the next field the
email address disappears and Display As is set to John Doe() with no email in
parenthesis (pardon my spelling). When try to send email to John Doe, the
address with blank () is displayed. If type in full address and complete the
email everythng looks good, But when you hit send you immediately get an
email saying the email was undeliverable, and John Doe() is in the error
message. Thanks for any help

Never seen this. It sounds as if your Outlook Address Book Service may have
become corrupt. Did Outlook ever work as it should? If so, what steps broke
it? How did you configure your Outlook Address Book? Do any of your existing
Contacts have valid email addresses? Did you do anything foolish like
importing these Contacts?

Yes, Oulook was working fine. We try not to do anything foolish. I will
have to ask if he imported any contacts. Have imported before and not had
any problems. Most of the contacts display and work correctly. User knows
of no reason why these few do not work, nothing special about these contacts.
thanks.

PST file or Exchange mailbox?
And there is nothing that can distinguish a Contact that works from one that
doesn't?

Found entry from SJCONLINE (2/6/07) on same issue that you were also
assisting with:
I had the exact same issue and finally discovered that I could go into
Advanced E-mail Options (tools, options, preferences, email, advanced
email options) and turn off the 'suggest names' and 'autocomplete'
selections, and then would be able to enter the address and save it
into the contact form. Then, I simply went back into the advanced
email options and turned them both back on, and am good to go. Hope
that helps.
Thanks for your help

....but "Suggest Names" is the same thing as autocomplete, and there is no
"autocomplete" option in that dialog, so you must have meant something else.
Either your address book service (automatic name checking) or your
autocompletion utility needed to be reset. I suspect it was the latter.
