Diskpart usage

I need to extend an array.

I have two different documents telling me 2 different ways to use the extend
option in Diskpart.

I only have one volume. I added 2 disks to the array. I now have 36gb at
the end of the volume. I have 2 questions:

1. Do I leave the extra space as unalocated?
2. Do I set the focus to the existing partition when I type expand, or do I
set the focus to the unalocated partition?

The second set of docs I found said to not leave the unalocated unalocated,
but did say not to format or give it a drive letter but make it a volume?

You leave the space unallocated, select the partition you want to extend
and then give the extend command. It will extend the partition into the
unallocated space.
