Disk Cleanup

when I run Disk Cleanup on my hard drive the progress bar does not move. the
computer does not lock up but it never finishes and nothing ever happens. I
have left it running for 12 hours at a time thinking maybe it will just take
a while but nothing. I would really like to use this utility so any help
would be appriciated....
