Disk cleanup

I run the disk cleanup program about twice a month and it keeps my computer sharp. I tried to run it recently and it "stalled" in opening on the "scanning old compressed files". It never completely opened so that I could complete the task. I have kept windows update current and scan with Norton regularly and find no virus. Now, it will stall each time I try to open it and it has slowed down my computer drastically. I have rebooted and gone through my Help and Support tools and have no improvement...There must be something in the "compressed old files" that is a problem, but I can't get to it to delete it...Help!!

There is reference to this in the MS knowledge base And it seem that there
is a corrupt file on your puter

Both W2k & XP have the same prob but the repair in each case is different

I have gone through the steps in the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article #812248 getting all the way to VolumeCaches. I finished step 4 saving it on my desktop. Step 5 takes me back through HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and so on but when I expand Volume Caches there is no Compress old files registry key that comes up...so now what? I dare not delete anything I am not sure of..

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.
