Disk Cleanup

Upon doing a clean install of XP Pro Disk Cleanup seems to run thoroughly
without any problems. However over several months as software is installed
and I use the machine Disk Cleanup seems to stall. The Task Manager shows
about 99% processor usage of the "cleanmgr.exe" and the window indicates
"Compressing Files" but there is no drive activity. The computer has no
other problems.

I've deleted all offline files in Internet Explorer and defragmented the
drive to see if that would get Disk Cleanup moving along since it seems
those two tasks are included as part of disk clean up. I'm assuming this
isn't a major issue since Disk Cleanup seems to almost be a batch process,
completing tasks together that complete normally when done individually.

Does anyone have any information as to why Disk Cleanup might be working so
hard with no drive activity?

Thanks
Phil
